Latest Amanda Anisimova career update after American's mental health break

Amanda Anisimova is seemingly set for a tennis return at the start of the 2024 season as the American has reportedly signed up to compete at the Hobart International and Australian Open. Anisimova, 22, stepped away from pro tennis in May to address her mental health. After missing the entire second half of the 2023 season, Anisimova reportedly plans to play again in the second week of the 2024 season in Hobart, via Tennis-Infinity. After getting some action in Hobart, Anisimova will also make her Grand Slam return at Melbourne Park. Anisimova, a former world No 21, has plummeted to No 362 in the world but she will have a protected ranking to use when she returns.

Anisimova took a break from tennis in May

In late April, Anisimova suffered a two-set defeat to Arantxa Rus in her Madrid opener. At the time, it was Anisimova's fourth consecutive defeat and put her on a 3-8 record on the year. A couple of days later, Anisimova announced she was taking a break from tennis due to burnout. "Hey guys. I thought I’d make a post explaining what’s been going on and my plans. I’ve really been struggling with my mental health and burnout since the summer of 2022. It’s become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it. I will miss being out there, and I appreciate all the continuous support," Anisimova announced on Instagram in early May. In late May, Anisimova shared another post, in which she updated her fans. "Missing this part of me. Stepping away from the game has really made me realize how much work, sweat, tears, pain I’ve experienced for this sport. With that being said, I am so proud of myself," Anisimova wrote at the time.
