Ons Jabeur has shared some tough news as the Tunisian former world No. 2 is also out of Cincinnati and her US Open participation also seems to be in jeopardy due to her ongoing shoulder injury.

After pulling out very late from Washington at the start of the North American hard-court swing, Jabeur gave a shot to Toronto last week. But that didn't go well since she was ousted 3-6 1-6 by Naomi Osaka in their first-round match.

And after she probably forced playing in Toronto, the Tunisian former world No. 2 doesn't want to make the same mistake in Cincinnati. Instead, she plans to use the next two weeks to try to recover.

"Dear All, I regret to inform you that, due to an aggravated shoulder injury, I will be unable to participate at the Cincinnati Open this year. Despite my best efforts to recover in time, playing in Toronto did not help, my current condition does not allow me to compete at the level required. I am doing all my best to recover for the upcoming US Open in New York. Hugs, Ons," Jabeur wrote in an message posted on her Instagram Story.

In the past, Jabeur made five Cincinnati appearances and twice reached the quarterfinal.

Missing the US Open would be absolutely heartbreaking for Jabeur

Throughout the year, Jabeur has been managing a knee issue and she also dealt with some illnesses. There can be a reason found why the Tunisian is just 16-13 this season and why she has fallen to No. 16 in the world.

And if the worst-case scenario happens and Jabeur is also forced to miss the US Open, that would be just another unfortunate thing that has happened to the former world No. 2 this season.

Jabeur can now only hope that the change of fortune will happen and that she will be able to play again consistently and rediscover her old form.
